This is one of the many programs that were developed at The Curran Homestead to get vintage tools in the hands of children so that they can, while supervised by adults, learn by doing. Here the task is sawing ice blocks from the surface of a frozen pond. Ice was taken from the pond using authentic harvesting tools and brought the museum’s nearby farmhouse where it a solitary block of ice was put in a kitchen icebox.
