Programs & Workshops

Hands-on learning experiences that bring traditional skills and history to life.

learn by doing

At the Curran Homestead, history isn’t just something you see, it’s something you experience.

Our programs and workshops offer visitors the opportunity to engage directly with traditional trades, tools, and techniques. Whether you’re observing a demonstration or participating in a hands-on activity, each experience connects you to the skills and stories of the past.

While our offerings continue to grow, we are committed to expanding opportunities for visitors of all ages to learn, create, and explore.

Blacksmithing, Knifemaking & forging workshops

One of the most engaging experiences at the Homestead is the opportunity to explore the art of blacksmithing and traditional metalworking. Visitors can:

* Watch live demonstrations of blacksmithing techniques

* Learn about the tools and materials used in historic trades

* Gain insight into the role of metalworking in everyday life

When available, hands-on workshops allow participants to try their own hand at forging under guidance. Program availability may vary depending on scheduling and volunteer support.

Schools frequently come for group visits.

Group visits

The Curran Homestead welcomes group visits from schools, organizations, and community groups. We offer:

  • Guided experiences
  • Demonstrations and hands-on learning
  • Customizable programs based on group interests

Whether you’re planning a school field trip, a scout visit, or a group outing, we can help create a meaningful and memorable experience.

Growing our programs

The Curran Homestead is actively working to expand its programs and workshop offerings.

As we grow our volunteer base and community support, we look forward to offering more frequent workshops, demonstrations, and educational opportunities.
